The Passport 4000 Secure Email Interface
SecurePort is Lane’s secure email interface for Passport 4000 Fax Server. It is well known that email is inherently insecure with many vulnerabilities due in part to the general lack of encryption and the fact that email is generally routed through a number of potentially insecure intermediate systems.
This is an important issue in many industries but particularly in financial and healthcare environments where the protection of personal information is a legal requirement. SecurePort helps these industries meet existing and emerging regulatory frameworks, such as HIPAA, HITECH, Sarbanes-Oxley and Basel II, while improving the trust between customer and partner.
Since email is not a secure communications medium the transfer of details and reports via email carries compliance risks. Emails containing personally identifiable, sensitive information could be sent to the wrong address or get intercepted and read by the wrong people. SecurePort offers a solution to these problems by providing a choice of secure delivery methods including PKI Encryption and password protection.
To provide increased flexibility and simple customer migration paths, SecurePort can easily be added to existing Passport 4000 fax Servers in order to offer both fax and secure email delivery options.
